Who’s Stix – Stix Drill
Hand-Eye Coordination and Cognitive Vision Training (CVT) is for all athletes and fitness minded humans.
Hand-Eye Coordination training with HECOstix® improves athletic performance for practically every sport including Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, Football, Pickleball, Softball, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Tennis, Soccer, Cricket, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Motor Sports, and more.
Hand-Eye Coordination training with HECOstix® is scalable. It improves athletic performance regardless of your skill level or age (youth to professional).
- True agility is decision-based movement.
- True quickness isn’t just physical – It’s mental.
- Don’t panic, train your brain. #BrainSweat
1. Who’s Stix Instructions:
All you need is a HECOstix® and 3 to 6 athletes.
In this example, we’ll use 6 athletes.
Three athletes form one group, standing together about 10 or more feet from a second group of three. Each athlete in both groups is assigned a unique color: Red, Green, or Blue.
One athlete starts by tossing HECOstix to the opposing group while calling out a color (red, green, or blue). The athlete in the receiving group, assigned that color, must react instantly: process the audible cue, visually track trajectory and spin, and catch HECOstix by the called-color leg; then immediately toss HECOstix back to the opposing group (while calling out a color), to keep the drill tempo flowing.
Repeat continuously (no pauses, no resets), forcing fast visual processing, quick decision-making, peripheral awareness, and competition in confined space. Try to maintain a relentless pace: "Go as fast as your brain can."
Drill Multipliers
To increase difficulty and cognitive load to this drill:
A) Callout a color and a hand while tossing HECOstix (e.g., “red”, “right”). This adds a level of complexity by requiring the athlete assigned that color to add catching with a specific hand, to the task of tracking and catching the correct colored leg.
B) Add working memory. This is done by executing the drill based on the previous callouts/colors. The drill is executed in the same way except; the athlete that must catch HECOstix is the one assigned the color from the previous callout/color. For example, the athlete tosses HECOstix and calls out red. With the next toss the athlete calls out blue, and the athlete assigned red must catch HECOstix because the previous callout/color (audible cue) was red. Athlete tosses HECOstix again and the athlete calls out green, and the athlete assigned blue must catch HECOstix because the previous callout/color (audible cue) was blue, and so on.
C) Add scoring to increase motivation, competition, and fun.
Lowest score wins! – Example point system:
- Dropping HECOstix = 3 points.
- Catching wrong color (leg) = 2 points.
- Catching with wrong hand = 2 points.
- Not maintaining balance after catch = 1 points.
- Not executing an accurate and timely toss back to opposing team = 1 points.
And As Always – Go As Fast As Your Brain Can!
2. Benefits
This HECOstix® drill improves focus, concentration, and true agility/quickness.
True multisensory integration, combining sound and sight in real time.
*** The brain must instantly integrate:
- Audible Cues (hearing the color)
with
- Visual Cues (seeing the colored legs)
Athletes’ eyes must lock on to HECOstix, and the correct colored leg, as they receive audible cues, and track trajectory and the colored legs (visual cues), to successfully execute the correct action.
Great for building reactive speed, focus under pressure, and team energy—perfect for baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, or any sport with crowded, fast visual demands.
The “game” is blasting visual information at you like a firehose, and your ability to see and process that information is the difference between amateur and elite.
Hand-Eye Coordination and Cognitive Vision Training with HECOstix helps you obtain elite.
- Elite Visual Processing Speed
- Elite Focus and Concentration
- Elite Reaction Time
- Elite eyes to brain to muscle coordination
Don’t panic, train your brain. #BrainSweat
This challenging drill will sharpen your focus, enhance your concentration, and improve your real-world quickness. True agility is decision-based movement, which is what Cognitive Vision Training is all about.
See the visual cues:
See the ball, opponent, teammate, boundaries.
Process what they mean:
Process, calculate, assess, and choose action set.
Execute decisive action:
Execute precise actions that provide a vector to victory.
Train the executive functions of your brain to coordinate with your body.
3. Let’s Go
We recommend about 5-10 minutes per session, and 2-3 times a week to achieve full benefits of Hand-Eye Coordination and Cognitive Vision Training with HECOstix.
We also recommend Cognitive Vision Training with HECOstix during pregame warm-ups. This helps get your mind and body ready and gives you the Cognitive Vision Training edge.
Perfect for athletes, physical therapy, fitness/health enthusiasts, or anyone training to think faster under pressure.
